New 2011 Mustang GT First Outing

Apparently a somewhat well-known and capable National Driver will be testing one of the new 2011 Mustang GT's in F Stock in the Peru Tour. These like it hot.

Bad:

Sunroof sealed shut
Scraped left front fender. Again, whole car needs paint
Right front light doesn’t raise anymore. I have like 3 spare lights though.
Car needs paint but doesn’t look bad at a distance.
Car needs to be detailed. I lived down a long dirt road and there is dust everywhere.
Could use new rear subframe bushings and collars.
Driver side electric window quit and I needed a fast solution so and I converted it to manual by cutting a hole for the crank. Looks a bit ghetto.
Dash cracked but covered

Spares (I'll add as I find stuff, again, this is off the top of my head)

1 Red top SR20det w/ a knock. Water pump oil pump etc still on motor, along with turbo and a few lines. Turbo has shaft play, but doesn’t suck oil yet. Has Circuit sports or some shit RAS. It’s real stable at speed and is pretty friggen fast. With me driving, I did a 1:22.6 at ARS on street tires and hot brakes. The only SCCA illegal bit on the car is that the front bumper is cut out for the FMIC. I have another bumper if that worries you. Engine oil changed very often. 500 mile after install using mobil 1, then after ARS, and again after last autocross. That’s 3 new oils in 400 miles. Transmission has GL4 MT90 Redline, rear is Redline GL5 80w or whatever the book called for, but redline none the less. Coolant is a bit of antifreeze and a pint of water wetter.

Car has no real issues. Typical 20 year old rattles and stuff.

You'll get all I have for the S13 chassis. Piles of it.
$6,500 Firm.

Location: Taylor Arizona on August 7 & 8.

Up in northern Arizona, in the gorgeous weather (30 degrees cooler than Phoenix), the company is great, and the autocrossing is simply awesome. The only problem, is that my truck sort of sucks for autocross.

This is where you come in, enabling my car slut summer to continue!

Once again I will be towing the timing trailer, so will be in need of a generous individual (or two!) to allow me to drive their vehicle at the August events in Taylor. I promise to try not to break your car, but I seem to be incapable of not trying my best, so some cone carnage is fairly probable. Owner ride-alongs are more than welcome, and I'm more than willing to ride along and offer assistance and tips on your runs if wanted. Of course I'll also kick in some cash for tires and gas.

Huge thanks to Matt Soeffner and Kevin O'Neil for allowing me to <strike>abuse</strike> drive their cars last weekend. I had a great time.

Somehow I still have my old Koni Yellows from my Integra and I just want to get rid of them. They should be rebuilt. If you don't already have a set on your car, you will also need the metal sleeve that goes in the top mount to accept the larger shaft.

My only requirements are:
1. you pick them up from my house or at an autox
2. you actually own a car that these will fit

If you know someone that may be interested, have them call/text me.
480-242-2662

Tucson folk

Drivers in Tucson should really consider going to a Taylor event. It is even more laid back than Tucson events, we have loads of runs (at least 10/day average), and we have a lot of after event hanging out. I can think of ten of you who would have a blast in Taylor.

Why do women do these things?

So my wife has a rental car while her's is in the shop. She gets home tonight and asks if I can check the tire pressures. She said right after she left the house this morning the low tire pressure indicator light came on. She stopped at the Circle K and thought one of the tires looked low so she put some air in it. The light still was still on so she "topped off" the other tires. I asked what she used for a tire pressure guage and she said she just mentally counted off a few seconds for each.

So I went out and checked the tires. My pressure guage pegged at 100psi on the left front, 80 psi in the left rear, 60psi in the right rear and 40psi in the right front. It was officially 115 degrees today, and she has a 50 mile commute on freeways each way to work and back. Not only that, she picked up our daughter at daycare on her way home.

I came inside and hugged and kissed my daughter, hugged my wife and asked her what the hell she was thinking. She knows better! She has an engineering degree, her first job out of college was a field test engineer for Ford New Holland purposely trying to break large construction and farm equipment then tearing down and analyzing the failure, she has autocrossed with me and driven a Busch car around Daytona. I'm just amazed at over 100psi, 115 degrees, and 100 miles of freeway driving that the tire is still in one piece on the wheel.

Why? Why? Why? If it's worth taking the time to stop and adjust tire pressure, isn't it also worth 5 minutes and $2.50 to go inside and buy a cheapie tire pressure guage?

AC Diagnosis.......Help?

As usual, I never get the common issues. Here we go........

2003 Celica GT, 68K miles. Mechanically excellent when checked out at purchase. Dealer maintained in it's earlier life.

Drove it home in April, and at that time on the way home the AC set on half froze my a** off.

As the summer arrived, Menthie (daughter) reported a flashing AC light, checked TSB's and replaced a bad AC Clutch relay. Flashing light is gone, but AC is still lacking.
Had Mike from Miata Mike's check and service the system (in May), found nothing wrong. Added a little Freon.

Symptoms:

Works best in the mornings, and progressively worse as the day heats up.

Fans work, sight glass is clear constantly.

At best blows 50 degree air, usually 55 degrees.

Hold the throttle at 2400rpm, air begins to cool, then the compressor begins to cycle off and on at 2-3 second intervals. Moisture then fogs over the temp gauge stuck in the vent. Temp goes up over 60 degrees.

Crawled underneath the car today and checked the condensation hose, as there have been no puddles under the car. The hose was dry under the car as well as where it attached to the unit under the dash. Could not find any moisture anywhere; floors were also dry (not leaking inside).

So, anyone out there skilled at AC? Scheduled an appointment at the dealer tomorrow. This has to get fixed.

Someone mentioned and expansion valve might be bad....hope not, as it's under the dashboard and labor is intensive.

Thanks for any ideas and thoughts.

Special Event, New Site

The Border Region will be holding a special event May 16th at a new location, Marana Airport. This is located off Avra Valley Road, Exit 242 in Tucson.

The site description is large, smooth new asphalt without gravel. If you ran at the new BDI location like I did, then I expect the pavement at Marana to work much the same as their new location with one big exception. 1350ft x 750ft.

Special Event
1. Preregistration only, no on-site registration. Registration will open soon.
2. Timed Runs and Time Onlies available like our normal events.
3. Payment must be mailed in ahead of time or given it to me at the April Tucson event.
4. This special event will run like all our other events with the exception of on-site registration. It will not count in the spring series.

Dave
