Iím sorry to Miata guys I just switched cars, I needed something to daily drive and have fun so I moved to a GTI. See you guys in GS open class now. I will be slowly building this new car but for now it will stay stock.

Ah man, another STS Miata gone. Do I need to get a WRX instead of my Miata now? The thought is tempting...

Did you realize this Forum has a serious rule about delaying changing your avatar once a new car joins your stable? ohmy.gif

Offenders are banished to autocrossing a Pinto for the next event or two. IF we can find one still running...... tongue.gif

Nah I understand, if the STS class remains small though and with my stupid 205/20/15 RE-71Rs on backorder and the delivery date getting pushed back more and more, I'm REALLY tempted to get something different. I love my Miata and I know I'd regret selling it, but I'm really curious what it's like to drive a WRX. I keep seeing them with the nice exhaust sound I like so many places I go, and in theory the car sounds great, but I'm just not sure I'd like it as much as the Miata, or if the older ones I'd be looking at would be nearly as competitive. Now if I sold the Miata I'd probably just pay off my stupid Chevy Spark and use the WRX as a daily. Just an idea at least...

And this, boys and girls, is how that insidious process of changing cars on a wish and a whim begins.....

It all seems so simple and logical. facepalm.gif

Yeah Iíll see what happens once the events start again in September. It sounds like STS should have more cars this time, but if it stays small Iíll really think things through. I have problems sticking with a car; Iíve already had six of them and Iím only 20. The Miataís stuck around longest at 2 and a half years so far. I constantly rethink whether to keep what I already drive or not. 😂

My car change was strictly motivated by 2 factors one my daughter is too little to ride in the Miata and 2 I was driving my poor truck into the ground. The GTI will allow me to have some auto-x fun, keep some miles off my truck and my daughter can ride in it. The nice part is when your 20 years the only thing that you have to be concerned with is yourself. Enjoy the Miata.

And this is the other reason to change cars........ life factors. Family, age, finances, physical limitations, and similar.

The mantra "The answer is always Miata" only goes so far. In a limited autocross perspective there simply isn't any other car that returns the best performance bang for the buck. Light, quick, handles well, adjustable suspension, even decent gas mileage. Astounding and unlimited aftermarket parts support.

As far as real world implications, other factors can and do easily trump (no pun) the Miata assets. Barely adequate air conditioning (especially earlier models.....I've had three of these), very limited traveling space, hard to fit four when going out to dinner, not a good "grocery getter", and not easily visible to bimbos on their cell phones.

Let's not even consider trailering....... that's a whole different discussion and "asset and space allocation" issue. But a solution. Ask the Burrows or Kevin V.

Thus the rise of the "Hot Hatches" culture. Focus, Fiesta, Mazda3's, GTI's, and many more.

In the end it's all good. A day playing with your car among good friends beats most other options.

Let's continue this discussion Saturday at the Awards Brunch. See y'all there? cool.gif

Yep Iíll be there Saturday. By the way Scott, the GTIís a nice choice for a family car! I plan on using a WRX or a hot hatch for a family car myself eventually.

Sorry, no AWD for me. I've seen what the costs can be when they reach the point of parts wearing out. Ask Frank, Brad, Kevin O, and others.

I had as much fun as God allowed in my two Mazda 3's. cool.gif Lots to like about Hot Hatch options no matter what make you choose.

Major issue with both the VW GTI and Mazda 3's....... no front camber, you will be flipping tires often. rolleyes.gif

(Are you sayin' there's something wrong with my Mustang V-6 option? dry.gif )
