Thread jack, just for a minute...
What's the best way to get to Lincoln from Tucson without stressing the tow vehicle too much with mountains?
Once upon a time there was a tool someone wrote to do this. Unfortunately it was designed for cycling routes, not 1200 mile road trips, so I'm pretty sure Google got sick of me using it and changed their API so it only works on straight lines and not millions of points along an actual route.

When I ran the route with this tool (from Phoenix), I-40 to US-54 seemed like the best route - less total miles, less total miles spent climbing, plus a lower max elevation than I-25 to, well, anything else. The section of I-25 just north of Albuquerque is the culprit, even if you cut off to US-56 you are adding way more mountains than you need to IMO (unless you care about speed over gas mileage - then I-25 to I-70 is your ticket...bring a radar detector).

You can still see elevation of a route in Google Earth by plotting a route, right clicking it and selecting show elevation profile. From Tucson the initial route will be a little different but should merge at the US-54/I-40 junction.

I-10 Tucson to Alamogordo, then follow 54 diagonally across the country. I normally stay in Dodge City, then do the rest of the way through Kansas up to Nebraska. Minimize highway, hills, radar traps. Alamogordo to Santa Rosa there are a few pulls but not a lot of traffic. Mostly three lanes at this point going up anything that is a long hill.

I avoid CO, and the concrete roads from hell. Nothing like 8-10 hours of expansion joints to ruin a trip.

I left from Marana to blytheville just recently, and the trip up to 40 towed well. I went to las cruses, headed up to Santa rosa, passing white sands area. From Santa Rosa on 40 to tucamari (?) North east to dodge city, on to salina, then north to 80, and over to lincoln.
no problems with towing on this route.
will be taking this route after Marana on sunday.

Warning: not only am I not in AZ and late to the thread/party, but also, Finale n00b.

I was able to arrange schedules and such last minute so that I can make the Pro Finale and am registered. Is this tent also for the Pro and if so, any room for an AZ expat with an S2000 and a tiny trailer? I guess next I have to figure out this paddock space registration thing also. Looking forward to seeing those of you making the trip.

The tent is there for 12 days or so. There will be plenty of space for the ProSolo. I would not worry about paddock registration and just show up. We will fit you in.

Dave,

We won't be needing our spot as I broke my shoulder and will be out for nationals this year sad.gif

Tim,
sorry to hear about the shoulder. Hope it nothing too serious, and you have a speedy recovery.

Thanks, everyone! Big help. Sorry we will miss you, Tim.

Hey, Shiner is the best beer in TX IMHO. I mean, compared to Lone Star huh.gif

I have a feeling the answer to my question is, "You don't have a space"...but, how do I find my paddock space on the scca.com website? I don't see anything in my registration profile, nor a search function on the map.

Hi Everyone,

Safe travels to everyone making the trip. Please note that while your space is labeled on the map we are all sharing the spaces around the tent. I am not sure where the tent will be until we get there. I should be around the whole week. Try to leave the pull through spaces for the people with trucks and trailers. Space should not be an issue though as we have an additional space or two. If you want my cell phone drop me a PM.

Dave

Thanks Manfred and Britt!

I see that I have a spot, but I'm still not sure how to find it online without hunting around the map. Mysterious abound...oh, well.

Good luck to everyone and see you there in a few days!
