This came to me (not in a dream!) but as a suggestion:

The banquet for the spring series trophy presentation never made it to fruition. What if the club hired Doug Johnson of All Aboard BBQ (it's so good!) to be at the September 10 event. Since there was not a trophy celebration banquet, issue a ticket to all the trophy winners for a free BBQ sandwich (the rest of us non-trophy winners would buy our own). Obviously, the club would pick up the tab for those trophy winners, a small investment in place of a real banquet.

The day is undoubtedly going to be warm which might keep entries at a lower level than normal, plus, many people will not yet be back from the Solo National so we could have a small break before starting the time-onlies for a quick trophy presentation. To shorten the time for the trophies, there would be a no-clapping policy. Shouldn't take too long and it would give at least some acknowledgement to those who entered enough events to win a trophy. For some, this is probably the first autocross trophy ever - which makes it a big deal to them. smile.gif

1987 Chevrolet Suburban, 350 motor, automatic transmission, A/C repaired last year, rear A/C, excellent paint, blue/white, power steering, power brakes, power windows, electric door locks, small dent right rear side, towing package, always garaged. Needs new headliner; cloth seats are still o.k. but could probably use covers. Mileage: 144,000. Hasn't been driven in over a year so no current registration or insurance. Low mileage because we used it almost exclusively for towing race and autocross cars. $1500. Don or Sharon Roberts. 602/938-4645. email: cobra8989@msn.com

Just took a peek at the entries for the Clifton Hillclimb -- Dave and Lindsay Maxfield's are entered!!

Way to go!

Don and I have many fun memories of Clifton. He was awarded, and we still have, the perpetual trophy after being the first person to win overall three times; in 1967 with a 289 Cobra belonging to John and Paul Nygaard, 1968 in his 289 Cobra, and 1971 in a Lola T-190 Formula 5000. Also had class wins in 1969 with a friend's 1965 Mustang Notchback, in 1970 with our Shelby GT-350, and 1975 in a friend's Cobra Daytona Coupe.

In those days, most of the entrants were camping (and partying!) in the parking lot right at the start line. One year we had motorcycle races, at night by the moonlight. We had the only motorcycle with a headlight. Don was behind two guys on a knobby-tired bike; the passenger slipped off - onto the knobby tire. Thump, thump, thump, then screaming. Another entrant had flown his plane to Clifton, so airlifted Dave back to Phoenix to be checked out. He lived, and actually fathered a son a few years after that -- much to the surprise of the rest of us! To this day, we all still make sure Dave remembers that incident.

Kudos to Dave and Lindsay for branching out beyond autocrossing - and remember one side of the road goes into the mountain and the other side of the road goes…….down, down, down……… laugh.gif
