I was glad to see so many new people (aka: Novices) out our first Fall Event. However, with that enthusiasm, came some confusion on how to find the correct Class for your car(s).

The SCCA classing system is NOT intuitive, and takes more than a few twists and turns until you learn more about the structure. So this is an attempt to give a slimmed down Classing Overview, especially for those newer to the sport. I do not pretend to be an expert, but I've been down many of these roads before, so I do know a few things.

To other more experienced people, if I miss something, or mis-state something, please feel free to jump in and help.

To the newer people here, anytime you are not sure about a Class or Rule, ask in these Forums, and someone will hopefully be able to figure out a good answer. Know that there is no substitute for reading the rulebook, the sections that pertain you, your car and equipment. Click HERE for the 2018 Rules. The 2019 won't be out for a while. The Class lists start around page 141 or so.

So, here goes. I hope this clarifies some. (If not, ask....) smile.gif

Yep, Summer Series come and gone, and now the 2018 Fall Marana Autocross Series gets underway.

This coming Sunday, Registration is already open, always good to sign up early.

Click HERE to Register for this Event.

THIS LINK will take you to Event Details..

Note that for their regular events Tucson goes back to a little later starting times, and the Run/Work order reverts to A/C, B/D.

Do it now for best choices, AND so you don't forget. I know how you can be, sometimes...... wink.gif tongue.gif

Hope to see many of you there. Even Harry B, finally. wink.gif

The Fall 2018 AZ Solo Autocross Series

Perhaps you’ve noticed, registration has opened now for the first event of our Fall Autocross Series. There are four events, one each Fall month.

• Sunday September 16th (Event details HERE)
• Sunday October 7th
..............(NOTE – Saturday November 24th is a special Solo Drivers’ School; details later (NOT part of this Series)
• Sunday November 25th
• Sunday December 9th

All are at Arizona Motorsports Park. Mark your calendars now so you can fit us in to your recreational activities. WAY better than watching others do sports on TV. cool.gif

Click HERE to enter. You will need to create an account if you have not done so before. Easy. Finally, the earlier you register, the more likely you will get the Run Group you request. Do it now…… more_cowbell.gif

You must enter three of the four Events if you are chasing a Trophy. Only the top three scores count towards any reward (in case you can’t make one event).

SCCA MEMBERSHIPS

If you are one who enters more than just a couple of events, there is a Membership Discount on your entry fees that you should consider. A full SCCA Membership costs $90 (and $35 off that if you are active Military). $70 National Membership fee, and $20 Local Region fee.

There is a $10 discount each event that you run if you are a member (here and Tucson and Sierra Vista)!!! So, if you enter most of our events (and even some Tucson Events), a membership pays for itself. AND, you get discounts, the SCCA SportsCar Magazine, and more. Also, members are eligible to help the Club by holding one of our Club positions.

That, and NO TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP FORM to fill out at each event. Hey, one less line! In fact, if you prepay via PayPal, there would only be Tech to deal with.......unless you did “Yearly Tech” ohmy.gif . Then NO LINES at the events. beer.gif

Click HERE for full information on costs and all benefits. (Don’t click the link on our Website, it does not work).

Any questions, please ask here. smile.gif

Yep, Tucson Marana runs all summer. Had in fact an entire "Summer Series". May/June/July/August.

This coming Sunday is their fourth in that Series. Registration is open until tomorrow (Friday) night about 7:00pm.

Temperature at noon is scheduled for only around 92 degrees; Far, far, far from "brutal" wink.gif .

These events are fun, well run, highly organized, and a great way to play with your car over the summer.

Hey, some of you "Phoenix Guys".......... aren't you getting a little bored watching TV all the time? NOTHING beats taking your car out for some personal time with the pylons. But, don't get too close. They don't like that. tongue.gif Our cars were NOT made to just sit for three months. (unless there's some snow; I checked, and none is scheduled) rolleyes.gif

Hope a few of you take the opportunity to come on down and try these events out. Take the time to register now. cool.gif

Yes, registration is open for this coming Sunday, and this is our next opportunity to play with our cars over the summer. Tucson runs a very time-efficient summer event, starting a little earlier and thus ending a little earlier. Everyone is packed and on the way home (or stopping for a beer) well before the real heat hits. Smart. cool.gif

Since I'm from out of town (yes, Phoenix is considered out of town wink.gif ), I typically run Group A and work Group B to shorten my day even more. You could stay and do TO's too and still be on the way home by 1:00 usually.

If you haven't tried a Tucson/Marana Airport Event yet, do it. They put on great events. All through the summer.

==================================================
By the way, for those who are able or interested, Sierra Vista is looking good for a Solo Event at their Municipal Airport Sunday August 5th the next weekend. You newer folks to the valley, this is the best concrete airport cement anywhere. Smooth, no potholes of chunks missing, but it will wear your tires pretty good. wink.gif tongue.gif

==================================================

Finally, for these Phoenix Spring Trophy winners, I could bring your trophy with me to this Sunday's event if you let me know you will be there. Just PM or email me (from my profile), and I will bring for you. Thanks. I'll even clap a little when I hand you your trophy........ rolleyes.gif
