Our request for the SV Airport was just denied. We will let you know how we will proceed when we figure something out.

Unfortunate about the March & April events being cancelled. I've not seen anything on the SV website, are there any possibilities for May 2018 down in SV or BDI?

Heard a rumor about a possible August SV event at Muni, but so far, still absolutely nothing on their website.
Nothing newer than an April indoor kart event- so looks like those alternate events have petered out as well.

Indy in Wilcox supposedly building a very large drift event pad, but to my limited knowledge so far, no one from solo community has expressed any interest in influencing construction for it to be suitable for solo.

I and other solo friends now seriously looking at running events in New Mexico and Las Vegas to fill the big hole now in AZ events.
McGee motorsports park is at 5300 ft, so that, along with higher latitude might make it an excellent substitute for Sierra Vista.
Have been SCCA tours and pros there at McGee in the past too. Appear to be a lot of solo events over there to pick from. not just SCCA.

Recently from Gene Sanders.... I suspect that the SV Airport dates are likely tentative, pending the whims of that facility dry.gif.

Thanks for the late breaking news, Scott.

So appears to be a tentative August, Oct, and November Solo event there in SV at their airport.

The Marana stuff is happening anyway. Those are Border Region.

Still going to look at NMex and Las Vegas as alternatives anyway.
McGee and LV Raceway look like very large surfaces in both cases.
Grip unknown.

We do know that Border Region and SV both put on excellent events on very good surfaces,
but tow time to go LV or Farmington events isn't much different than going to SV.

Drive to Indy in Wilcox is actually a little closer too (for anyone coming from Tucson direction) than going into SV,
so maybe either SV or Rio Grande Region might wish to consider talking to Indy on new site solo compatibility.

About 6 of us up in this area that drive to Marana and other points south to run solo.
See my post on potential new solo pad at Indy in Wilcox which would be closer for you as well.

For a good grippy surface to run on--I'll drive just about anywhere!
I'm already a devotee to driving 5.5 hours to SV for muni airport solo events
-- well run with great courses on top of the essential 1st requirement: good clean gippy pavement.

To be clear, I love all my old and new friends in SV and would much rather run there than out of state,
but one of the other locals up here thought of this before it dawned upon my fuzzy old brain:

Be prepared should the 3 tentative SV solos not materialize.

Does Inde allow non-member participation at their site? I was under the impression rental of the site by non-members is prohibited, perhaps this has changed over the last couple of years.

I have the same questions. In reading their site some time ago, isn't this the place that "rents" garages at certain levels of participation for only $25,000 per year or such? And regular memberships are in the $5000 to $10000 range? Or am I mis-remembering this?

Got the distinct impression that to try to rent anything from them would be very, very expensive.

I would like to be wrong here.........

I'm sure the SV guys have considered Inde, they have had at least one half day autocross/half day track time event there.
I was unable to make it then, would like to make the next time.

I am not aware of any such Solo event held there by the SV crew.

Read here for typical individual drivers costs for track events.

The $2500 spent for one days participation would gladly be counted *towards* a full membership ohmy.gif

I checked with Gene Sanders. Fact Check.😉

There have been two events that the SV Club paired with Tucson Porsche Club and Tucson Street Racers. SV folks served as filler entries since the other Clubs were short on the needed entries.

Cost each time was $200 per car/driver. These were not pure autocrosses

I could be wrong, but what I've seen posted so far does not lead me to believe that the right questions have been asked of Inde yet.

1. Currently all Inde has available appears to be just a road course- those are expensive if done right. Large Capex to recoup.
2. Road course also more expensive to operate at a higher level of safety than required at a solo pad. Road courses should have fire and ambulance crews.

What follows is the actual basis of our probe:

3. Inde says they will be building a pad for drift events.
4. It doesn't appear that anyone from solo community has approached them on fee structure yet.
5. In same vein, if no one from solo talks to them and influences the layout and paving material- it's possible it may never be a viable backup for SV Muni airport.

Therefore, seems prudent to check soon with Inde since future of solo at SV Muni remains in peril.

Iíll suggest contacting Gene Sanders directly and have this conversation with him.

Using this Forum to get things done is impractical. Good starting point, for ideas and discussions, however. Let me know if you need his email.
