So I've been doing some research on upgrading the Miata's exhaust. I'm considering upgrading the muffler since it will provide more flow, while using the stock exhaust piping to keep from having an overly annoying fart can noise. I came across this exhaust on Youtube and I like the sound:

My question is, will this actually help improve performance, and does anyone know if it will pass sound at AMP? The muffler is a Flowtech 50251FLT Red Hots glasspack.

I put a Magnaflow 3 chamber muffler on my car and really like the low throaty sound. And inexpensive... wink.gif

TJ, if all you're replacing is the factory muffler and keeping the oem cats, manifold, and piping, I don't think this will do anything except make your car louder.

Ah that's what I was afraid of, guess I'll have to do the full catback to gain torque then. I wonder if this muffler will pass sound at AMP if I incorporate it into a custom catback system?

Yep, that's the type of sound I'm looking for! I don't like the fart can sound like a lot of Hondas have.

Where are you at in your STS build? Do you have a header yet, or any ability to tune?

Nope, don't have either one. I'm not planning on a header or tuning for probably a lot of years, costs more than I can afford to get anything decent when it comes to headers and ECUs.
