Hi Everyone,

As much as I'd like to get us all back out on the track, we've made the decision to cancel the May 17th event at AMP. With things not opening up as soon as we'd like, we decided to go ahead and call the event off. We'll be picking back up in the Fall as currently scheduled.

The SC is discussing what to do for standings for the Spring series, expect an announcement on that soon. Thanks everyone, and stay safe out there!

Hay, y'all out there. Why else can you think of us having to cancel this event? What other "secret" reasons can you share that only you know of?

I am betting it is the early heat as the main reason for the cancelling of your event and the PCA event. A lot of long time Arizonan's never do learn how to cope with the heat here. Best cure for that is very early morning summer events. First car out no later than 6 AM and picking up and leaving by around !! AM . Everybody who attends helps with the tear down not just a designated crew. But I guess 6 month summer breaks are a lot better than an idea like that. wink.gif

Not if it's an event being held at AMP where your actual launch time of cars cant be before 8am.

So, good point. Therefore, here’s the plan.......
  1. Have simplified, shorter summer courses. Easier setup, easier teardown.
  2. Everything is set up, ready to go by 8:00am (We rarely make our planned 9:00 start anyway...)
  3. Event ends at 12:00 noon. Or 1:00. Whatever is feasible.
  4. Online pre-paid registration only.
  5. Limited to the first 100 entries. Or whatever number is space and time appropriate.
  6. No Time Onlys; “Cash-In-Hand” fun runs only, time allowing.
  7. Emphasis for the future to strongly encourage yearly tech for the masses
  8. Streamlined Driver’s Meeting. Tell Kevin or Dave to talk faster. Only new people listen anyway.

This could be done. Has been done for many years before (Summer Events) by Az. Region. Current Officers don’t want to? Appoint a summer crew of event Chiefs.

All in favor? 😉😳👍

Aye (Agreed). +
- No sound checks. Only those with current sound stickers can participate.
- Online “Drivers Meeting” only (AzSolo or Google Docs, Motorsports Reg, etc.), cover only salient points at the onsite meeting.

Thanks for filling in a few details I didn’t anticipate. Good points.

We really do need to explore how to restore summer events to AZ Region. Even in a normal year, five months is far too long to go without an event. And not everyone can drive to Tucson for their events.

Be prepared to step up and volunteer and contribute, all who would like to see these happen.😉😎👍

And with all the changes in society recently, maybe more parking lots or even Wild Horse Pass might become more available.🙏🤞

Alot of good ideals here. With some States starting to lift restrictions, and Governor Ducey seem to using the May 15th date for additional restriction lifting, I believe we can pick a realistic date for the next event. May 17th was cutting it close, but after that may be a realistic date. SCCA's new date events are starting in June, so it would be nice to see something in May.
I would be in favor of that.

If we start promptly at 8am and limit entrants, we should be able to finish before noon, even with four runs per group. Equipment set-up w/3 is good, but tear down there could always be more help.

Just a note, but summer events are much more taxing on setup and teardown folks. The slight degree difference in summer down in marana is noticeable.

The American Autocross Series successfully runs in the heat with some humidity during the hot summer months in Central California (Crows Landing). They provide pop-up canopies and ice chests full of water at each corner station and the older drivers (65+ years old) are exempt from working. This could be successfully implemented here. Just stay hydrated and pace yourself accodingly and you'll be fine.

AZ Region could also use the same game plan like AZ Border Region does by limiting the timed run groups to two. If the two run groups are two big than go with 3 or 4 and eliminate the fun run groups if you want to beat the heat. If people want fun run groups make it mandatory that they pick up the cones and equipment.

If you elect to run three groups you just split the workers for the third work group.

I say, run a couple summer events and see how it works out and then decide. Maybe just some adjustments will be needed to make it work for summer events. If you don't you never will know if it is feasible to hold events are not. I'm sure there will be enough entries to make it feasible.
