Does anyone have the sound logs? This should be the first event with proper A-weighting. Thanks!

FWIW, I worked the meter at the last event as well as for D group this event and I noticed that only a handful of cars measured louder than the recording threshold this time around (90 dBC then and 90 dBA now). The loudest reading I recorded this time was 93 dBA whereas I recall recording a couple of cars at 98 dBC last time. -------------------- Jeff Goggin

While I was out chasing cones from the middle position where the sound meter was there were only a few cars that broke the 90 barrier. Dave Rock's car was the loudest during that run group. (F I think) Yours may have exceeded it once Brad but I don't think it was the norm for your car.

As I was about to announce for Group D, someone called in and asked if we wanted the sound logs brought to the trailer; we said "sure". Never saw them, don't know where they were put. -------------------- Scott Meyers

I'm sure I had to be one of them Yes, your car was measured at more than 90dBA -- 92dBA if my memory is correct -- but subjectively I found it less "annoying" than several other cars that didn't break 90dBA because its tone was different. That's one of the problems when addressing noise issues strictly based on measured sound levels, as your car is clearly less offensive than a car with a fart can on it even though it measures louder... -------------------- Jeff Goggin

I handed in the sound logs to someone after group E and now I can't remember who, but they were supposedly all together in the trailer. Both CSP miatas in that group registered quite loud and I forget which one I got at 98 and 97 on a couple of runs. Fred's car was a pretty consistent 87-88. A lot of cars in that group got in to the low 90s, but nothing quite as outstanding as the miatas.

I love the sound of my exhaust...I just wish it was under 90db. What doesn't make sense to me is how in December I was pegging 95-96 and now it was only 92ish. I know that atmospheric pressures, weather, blah blah blah...but thats a pretty significant drop.
At least it wasn't as bad as that Mini that was running the club races...that thing had to be over 105-110! -------------------- ![]() Mirrorkhana 2010 ST1/ST2 3rd place |

If anyone is interested in making a quiet, yet lightweight exaust for AMP/San Diego, let me know. My current exhaust weighs 1lb more than my old 105+db exhaust and it is 3" ID straight through. Was the sound meter in the middle of the "W" (near center of the skidpad) or the starting stretch during D? I was in the mid 98s at nationals with the same setup. I have a hard time believing I was at or below 93. -------------------- Dan Hawrylkiw

It didn't exactly seem to be a point of WOT for many, so don't be surprised if your numbers are a little lower than the car may be capable of. -------------------- Jana Sutton - SM Mini Cooper S

It seems if it would have been aimed just a little more 'eastward' we might have picked more WOT situations. -------------------- John Leonhardt

2/7/10 Sound Logs As far as location, tried to coordinate with an existing work station. Less than ideal result. This is why we're trying to work out the kinks in our system now, before we really need it. For everyone's information, this kind of meter placement variation happens in San Diego all the time and will probably happen with us as well. It's just not that easy to find a good location before you run a single car through the course. We'll be trying to stay as consistent as possible and hit the guidelines in the nationals rulebook whenever we can. -------------------- Doug Rowse

So why not put it just after the start line? Especially at this event, it was WOT for me until the cone just before the first apex...

So why not put it just after the start line? Especially at this event, it was WOT for me until the cone just before the first apex... Max noise requires not only WOT, but also high RPM's typically, so the start is not the best place, since some cars may be short shifting or starting in 2nd gear (high torque V8's for example). -------------------- Brian Weikert
