Hi everyone!

I recently purchased an 08 Saturn Sky Redline and having a blast driving it. I was thinking about maybe bringing it to an event, but I was curious as to what class I'd be put into.

Everything on the car is stock (including tires, does that matter?) with exception to the intercooler, exhaust, downpipe, and a tune. I *think* that puts me in street prepared (per the checklist from the novice guide) but I just want to make sure.

Whenever I make it out to an event, it will be my first. I'm not looking to win anything, but just out of curiousity, what other cars are in this division and how bad would I get blown out of the water?

Thanks!

Aftermarket intercooler = Street Modified 2, or SM2 (since it's a two-seater)
Stock tires = Street Tire 1 category
so, SM2/ST1
or since you're new,
SM2 class and Novice 1 category.

More description of you mods might help better define your class. You may be legal for ASP if your intercooler fits in these parameters...
As utilized only on engines originally equipped with forced induction, induction charge heat exchangers (known as “intercoolers”
or “charge air coolers (CACs)”) are unrestricted in size and configuration. Air-to-air CACs and radiators for airto-liquid CACs must be cooled only by the atmosphere, except for standard parts. Body panels, fascias, or structural members may not be cut or altered to facilitate CAC installation.

See you at the track, come early and bring plenty of water! Your car could be highly competitive in Novice 1, easily capable of top-three if you do your part.

As long as you didn't have to hack anything up to make the intercooler fit, you're correct that you should be legal for street prepared. Your car goes to ASP.

I haven't cut anything off the valence for the IC, so I'd be in ASP, I assume. Now after reading more into it, I'd be in ST1 because ASP's cannot run in ST2, correct? Why is that...what is the difference from ST1/ST2?
Ben Clement
ST1 and ST2 are just different local categories for different car types. In general, the faster classes are in ST1 and the slower classes are in ST2.

So after finally doing a few events, I think I want to try to become more competitive. Before I go tinkering with the car, I was wondering which class I'd go to. The only thing that is pushing me into BSP is my IC. If I put the stock one back in, will that put me into AS or STU?
Ben Clement
Unfortunately it's not just the IC keeping you in street prepared. Of the modifications you have, a cat-back exhaust is the only one allowed in stock. The downpipe and ECU tune would have to go back to stock. There's no ST class where your particular car is allowed to run, so you don't really have any options between stock and street prepared.

So crateenginedepot.com has Z0K swaybars in stock. Could I install the rear sway bar and stay in BSP?
Ben Clement
Yes

If your car setup is anything like a MX-5, I don't think you'll want a rear sway bar.

Here's another one...

My Redline is an automatic dry.gif Say I found a GXP/Redline 5 speed transmission somewhere...If I swapped that in could I stay in BSP or do I get put into BM?

Short answer: you can stay in BSP
