The next Arizona Border Region SCCA Solo event will take place Sunday, August 23, at Southwestern International Raceway. This is the fourth and final event in the Summer 2009 Series. Online registration is now open and will be open through Friday, August 21.

New for this event: a Novice Course Walk will be led by Bill Fisher approximately 25 minutes before the driver's meeting. We have had quite a few new participants throughout 2009 and the AZBR Board has decided to implement a Novice Course Walk to help them make the most of their experience. Announcements will be made on site prior to the start of the walk and while it will be geared toward helping our newest participants be safe, go fast, and have fun, anyone is welcome to join.

Looks like the weather is going to be cooler than normal so it will be another great day to be outside. We also have a low registration count at the moment which means lots of runs.

My streak of consecutive Tucson events is going to have to end at two sad.gif I wish I could be there, as the last two Tucson events were pretty awesome.

A few of us are coming up from Sierra Vista; me, Gene and David Larsen, I think Dale's coming too.
Jim
I'll be there sporting the A6s on the ol undented mustang.

Who else has a new gen mustang with Hoosiers? Too bad there's not a new gen Camaro on A6s as well to make it a little more interesting! It'll be my second time to run an event on these tires, but have to admit they are "habit forming". cool.gif

Any STU driviers willing to share your car for the day? Competitive would be great, but not a requirement.

Oh I see how you are. Just got me all happy thinking I was finally going to have some good straight up FS competition for this event. Mikes is actually running AS due to it being a GT500. Oh well, guess one of these days someone will show up in a competitive FS stang. smile.gif

Yes, the Shelby runs in AS. It is retired to street duty since it has new OEM tires on it. So it is back to the Miata. biggrin.gif

Dave, you have to show up in Tucson since it's been fairly cool. It did not get out of the 80s today. It was 68 when I went out this morning. I'm sure it will be just as cool in the morning tomorrow. ph34r.gif

Ahhh, well. I wish I could make it down, but have "business" to attend to tomorrow (selling parts). It seems my weekends have become "work days," and the weekdays, "play days?" Not complaining, mind you, just commenting...

Jim, the tires on the Camaro are so old, ... "How old are they?" ... they have date stamps from the LAST century !!! And it has a dead battery, and any other excuse I can come up with ... for now! wink.gif

Oh, and Rob, I miss you guys down there! Gotta get my STS car on some tires soon! And AC would be nice. But at least the battery is not dead on THAT one! biggrin.gif But, as Ahnuhld says, "Ah'll be bahck..." You have been warned ! rolleyes.gif

I checked weather.com and it looks like it won't rain until we're done. sad.gif
But a little cloud cover and sub-90 temperatures will be nice.

Kudos to Jim Bright for the fabulous course. One of the best I've ever run. Keep the design handy.
It required a lot of precision (that's why I coned every run blink.gif ) and it was just plain fun and fast.

Thanks to Dave R for the last minute codrive for Ben and I. The car was good fun and as Britt said the course was also very fun. smile.gif

So, are they still habit forming now that you have seen the cords? Your car will eat em up with weight anyway but especially with you putting all that power down on these courses, perhaps you should slow down! laugh.gif

Thanks for the course, I had a blast!

Also, big thanks to Stuart for the TO run in his car, it was a blast too biggrin.gif

I still love the tires! After discussing it with others I think the problem is a lack of negetive rear camber. So with the mustang there is no way to adjust camber that I know of, which presents a problem. After these are done I will most likely either go back to street tires or try some V710s for the short term. The long term fix is a car change. Considering joining the A stock crowd. Oh, and slowing down is only an option when it's actually faster.

No problem Dave, since I coned all my comp runs and 3 of my TOs I wouldn't have been much competition anyway.

Thanks for the positive course feedback from both you and Clint. I has a blast slipping around out there, the weird thing to me was that even though I managed to cone all my runs except one in TOs, I don't think I coned in the same place twice.

I was told I may have designed a pretty cool launch pad for those with stiff suspensions some where after the optional. It wasn't intensional, but seems it added a small challenge to those driving the slide rock racing mobile. We shall try and avoid that section in the future. I am going to reveiw my videos to try and pin point the area in question.

Britt, I have all my courses saved so long as my hard drives don't fail. It was nice to meet you. I know you design in Phx, but if you would like to take a stab at a design down here that could be fun.

Thanks to all who came out, it was a great time!

There was mass cone carnage on my part as well. I had to slow down significantly to get one clean run at the end, but the new guy in the Neon on Kuhmos got the best clean run out of the two of us. That surface, with all its undulations and grip changes, was hard to get used to. Nonetheless, my head wasn't in the game out there. It was great to see the Tucson regulars though, and the club put on a great event. Thanks for the challenging course.
Random1
Thanks to everyone that came out yesterday to participate and help make the event run smoothly. It was a bit humid out there yesterday.

Jim - awesome course. It was a real challenge to get into third gear while going through those pointers just after the crossover. That combination of pointers and the optional definetly put you on edge. The combination of slaloms, offsets, and gates on the way back had great flow and rythm too. Even though our web page does not indicate it at this time, Jim is our Chief Course Designer for the club.

I am not sure when Jeff will get a chance to post the results, but attached are the draft of those. Also included are the series points. If you see any errors let us know.

Good course as always Jim. The bumps were finally a problem for the WRX. I hit the bumpstops at least for times on my last few runs. The struts are shot and looks like I have to spend some Money. Great day guys and good god Rob is fast. Thanks to Ben for leaving the great white at home.

Congrats on your series win quigley! I second that Rob was blazing fast! Watching from the course workers position on the return slolam when the little red s2000 from hell would come flying thru it was quite impressive. Maybe he'll upload a vid of his fastest run, I would like to see that one.

Sorry, no video in Bill's car. Nothing like new A6s to inspire some fast times.

Mike, nice job on the series, not enough time margin to beat you in the series. And thanks again to Ben for sending off his shock for repair! ph34r.gif

If I remember correctly, it was the around the first cone of the slalom after the optional. It wasn't just stiff cars: as soft as you think my spyder is, it had a launch during one of my runs. I don't remember if that is the run that coaxed me into a CD...

The combination of that bump with braking was really the issue. If those two did not coincide then it was not really a problem. Of course there is always the exception like go karts and Dave's car.
