Thirty-one Arizona-based drivers participated in the 2008 SCCA Tire Rack Solo National Tour in San Diego, March 15 - 16. The weather threatened to put a damper on the event but didn't make a major impact. Saturday night's showers were gone in the morning and the wet surface only affected the first Sunday morning run group.
Eleven Arizona drivers came home with trophies. Dave Rock took 5th in Super Stock, Dave Webb took 2nd in G Stock, and Clint Child and Britt Dollmeyer, in his first National Tour, took 3rd and 4th respectively in STS. Brian Peters passed Brian Goodwin for fourth in CSP on Sunday, and was .1 seconds from beating Ron Bauer for third in his MX-5.
Doug Rowse had the first place DSP trophy virtually in the bag on both days but just wasn't able to stay off the cones. Elliot Speidell took 3rd in the Team Zip Tie BMW, and you can bet that the National audience took notice of things to come from Doug and Elliot.
Fred Zust took 2nd in the Blackwatch Racing XP Lotus, and Diane Deanovic placed first in the same car in XPL. Dan Hawrylkiw, in his first National Tour, grabbed third and a trophy in his F Prepared Lotus. Way to go Dan! Tage Evanson drove Alan Wagstaffe's 2000 LeGrand Dragon SR1 to first in B Modified, and the D Mod National Champ, Mark Huffman, overcame a sticky throttle to claim 1st.
